So Who The Fuck Is iPunx?

Well, we wish we could tell you. Unfortunately what we do is quite illegal – like many things in art and music often are. We once tried to get a clearance from different record labels for one of our mash ups. Sting was cool and gave permission for Roxanne but others didn’t, so with these copyright laws it’s practically impossible to perform this artform legally. So we stick to a small limited amount of white labels and that’s it. It would be wicked to make a whole album, but it would take years to clear rights and for most parts it’s not even possible.

Actually, our artform is like an homage to these artists that we are taking our bits and pieces of music from. We are not much different from djs who mix two records, only that we also use computers and use up to five or six songs to make one new. There are kids out there that have bought the original simply because they got to know the song from our vinyl.

Pero… ¿qué coño es iPunx?

Ojalá pudiéramos decírtelo. Desgraciadamente lo que hacemos es bastante ilegal –como muchas otras cosas en arte y música. Una vez intentamos conseguir autorización de diferentes discográficas para una de nuestras mash ups. Sting se portó y nos concedió el permiso de Roxanne, pero otros no lo hicieron, así que con estas leyes de copyright es prácticamente imposible mezclar [tal como nosotros lo entendemos] legalmente. Así que estamos anclados en una pequeña y limitada cantidad de etiquetas libres de derechos.

Sería una increíble hacer un álbum completo, pero llevaría años conseguir los derechos y para muchas partes ni siquiera es posible […] Actualmente, nuestro arte es un homenaje a esos artistas de los que sacamos nuestros ritmos y piezas de música. No somos muy diferentes de los djs que mezclan 2 temas, sólo que nosotros además utilizamos ordenadores y más de cinco o seis canciones para componer una nueva. Hay chavales que se han comprado el original simplemente porque han conocido la canción a través de nuestro nuestro vinilo.
